Caridina Japonica, Japonica Shrimp, Algae Eating Shrimp, Yamato Shrimp are all names for the Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata). Takashi Amano popularised them due to their reputation for suppressing algae and keeping tanks clean of detritus in general.

Description

-They are generally peaceful, but that all changes when the food is served.

-They’re one of the larger “dwarf shrimp,” reaching up to 2 inches in length. When you acquire them, though, they will usually be less than 1 inch long.

– Their huge transparent/greyish coloured body makes them easy to spot.

-You can tell their gender by a lengthy line of red/brown or blue/grey spots that runs the length of their body.

– Depending on their diets, the colour of these dots might change dramatically. The dots of a shrimp that has been fed a lot of algae and other greens will have a green tint to them.
