It is a member of the family Cactaceae and the well-known species of the genus Myrtillocactus. Because of its blue-green color and growth habit, the plant has acquired numerous common names. The most widespread and popularly used ones are a Blue candle, Blue myrtle cactus, Whortleberry cactus, and Bilberry cactus.

Description

This cactus species is fairly drought-resistant but needs watering in summer. For best growth, nourish your blue myrtle with a specific cactus fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Like all other cacti and succulents, the blue Myrtillocactus requires sunlight to grow well. However, do not expose the young plants directly to full sun; keep them in light shade until they grow up and then shift to a sunny full sun place.
