Anubias have long been an important element in the aquarium hobby. This shadow-loving genus is named after the Egyptian god Anubis, the lord of the underworld/shadows. They grow mainly in rivers and streams but are also found in swamps.

Description

Anubias are popular among aquascaping crowds because it grows well on wood and blends well with mosses and other epiphytes. The leaves are broad, thick and dark in shape. The thick and leathery leaves are dark green and oblong with an acute apex, an entire margin and net venation. The leaf petiole can grow up to 5cm long with leaf width up to 2.8cm wide. The leaves are also unpalatable to herbivorous fishes hence, making it an ideal plant for aquascaping.
