Black Velvet is a dwarf Alocasia and has dark, almost black leaves, adorned with brilliant silvery-white veins and velvety look makes for a strikingly beautiful plant. The underneath colour throws off a purple tone. Anthurium-like flowers are produced throughout the year when growing conditions are favourable. These consist of a sterile, finger-like floral column (spadix) surrounded by a pale green petal-like leaf

Description

Keep the soil moist spring through fall when the plant is actively growing. It must be watered moderately in winter, which will allow the soil to become almost dry between watering. Nourish every 2 weeks spring through fall with a balanced (such as 10-10-10 NPK) water-soluble fertilizer diluted by half. Do not nourish in winter. Divide rhizomes in spring and pot in different containers. Keep the top exterior part of the rhizome above the soil line so that the developing stems don’t rot at the soil level.
