Aglaonema silver bay

Description

Aglaonema is a low indoor light plant, which is apt to be placed close to a window. It doesn’t suit well in very cold conditions or too much light. It needs a balanced fertilizer on monthly basis. While in winters, only once in 6 weeks. Aglaonema or Chinese Evergreen needs warm temperature, slightly damp conditions to thrive and they will not fare too well in chilly areas.

Repot them once in 2 years. Use good potting soil.

Propagation of Aglaonema is hassle-free. It Propagates through the cut-off tip just like a stem tip cutting. Another method of propagation is through division but the plant needs to be older and root-bound for that to work.

Plants growing in the containers need more fertilizing than those in the ground. The more you water, the faster you flush the nutrients out of the soil.

Some of the issues faced by these plants are:

• Browning of leaves is caused due to excessive watering or overuse of fertilizer.
• Shedding of leaves is an indication of improper light or water requirements. The excessive impact of light makes the leaves weak and floppy. Move your plant away from the harsh light to avoid droopy leaves.
• Yellow and small leaves are an indication of copper deficiency. Either, the soil is lacking in copper, in which case you need to use a micronutrient spray. Second, cooler temperatures (<18℃) cause the plant to inadequately absorb and utilize copper, in which case you need to relocate the plant to a hot area or in more sunlight.
